What is Draw No Bet?
You can figure out the draw no bet meaning from its name. This bet market excludes the draw from the equation, leaving only two possible outcomes. You can only bet on either home or away win. But, what if the game ends in a draw? In that case, you get your stake back.
Basically, the draw no bet market turns a three-way bet into a two-way bet. For this reason, don’t expect to find this draw no bet available for some events. Furthermore, this bet market simply doesn’t work for some sports.
For instance, sports like tennis or volleyball, where a draw is not an option, don’t have a need for DNB. Furthermore, you aren’t going to find this bet in racing sports, such as cycling or Formula 1.
Draw no bet is also rarely used in sports when draw is not a common sight. Basketball is a very good example. Even though draws do happen in this sport, they are very rare. This is the reason why most sports bettors prefer picking spreads and Asian handicap than DNB for basketball betting. It’s practically the same story with sports like American football, baseball, and so on.
The same goes for combat sports like boxing or mixed martial arts. In those sports, draws are a possibility, but they happen extremely rarely. Probably the best example from the recent history is the draw in the first bout between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.
A sport that seems perfect for the DNB market is association football. In fact, football betting is where draw no bet is used the most. Some other sports where you can encounter this bet include the following:
- Ice hockey
- Bandy
- Futsal
- Handball
- Water polo
Generally speaking, bettors go for this bet market when betting on favourites. This bet ensures they don’t end up empty-handed if the underdog scores a lucky equalizer.
How Does Draw No Bet Work?
Now that I’ve answered the question of what is draw no bet, it’s time to explain how this market works in practice. To explain this bet, let’s use an example from the English Premier League.
Let’s say the match you want to bet on is Chelsea vs Liverpool. You think that the Reds are closer to winning this game. Still, considering that it’s played in London, you feel there’s a risk the Blues could snatch a point off them.
Unfortunately, the odds on double chance Liverpool/Draw are way too low to your liking. Bet odds on the draw no bet option, on the other hand, are much higher.
The only caveat is that with draw no bet, you’re not going to make a profit if the game finishes in a draw. Instead, you’re going to get only your money back. With double chance, you win money if the game ends without a winner.
For all these reasons, bettors tend to go with the DNB bet when they are confident their team is going to win, but still want to insure themselves against surprises.
If you are certain your team is going to win, match-winner is a better option. The reason is that it’s bound to come with better odds. But, remember, if it ends in a draw, you’re going to lose.
FAQ
-
The answer depends on which sportsbook you’re using. Still, generally speaking, there isn’t any reason not to have this betting market in the ‘live sports’ section of the sportsbook. Same with any other bet market, the live odds on draw no bet are going to change depending on what’s happening in the game. If the favourite gets a lead, the DNB odds are going to drop and vice versa.
-
Again, this is something that depends on your bookmaker. If there’s a cash-out option available, you should be able to use it for draw no bet. This goes both for cashing out when your team is winning and when the score is even. In the latter option, the maximum amount you can cash out is equal to your stake. If your team is on the back foot, it’s likely that the sportsbook will offer you a sum that’s lower than the amount you’ve wagered.
-
No, these are two separate betting markets, albeit both of them are two-way bets. Asian handicap gives a point/goal handicap to the favourite, which they need to overcome in order to win. It goes the other way around, as well when advantage is given to the underdog. There is one case, however, when this market is practically the same thing as DNB. What we’re talking about is the Asian handicap (0). Let’s use the Premier League game between Chelsea and Liverpool as an example once again. Asian Handicap Chelsea (0) means that this bet is a winning one if the London Blues win. If the game finishes in a draw, you get your stake back.
-
You can add DNB as one of the bets you have in your acca (a.k.a. parlay bet). Its odds count towards the total acca odds if your team wins. However, if the game finishes in a draw, the odds of 1.00 are used in combination with other odds from your acca.
-
Football games in knock-out competitions usually go to the extra time if the score is even after 90 minutes, followed by a penalty shootout. However, that shouldn’t concern you much if you’ve placed your money on draw no bet. This market is based on what happens in the regular time. The fact is that the game has gone to overtime and/or penalties means that you will get a stake return.
